How Decisive Action to Restore Land can Help Mend the Planet
13-Nov-2024
Sameer Jain, Managing Director at Primus Partners, shares his view on the importance of addressing land degradation and drought resilience as COP29 unfolds in Baku, Azerbaijan. Globally, land degradation causes an annual loss of ecosystem services worth $6 trillion, with over 30% of India’s land already degraded. This threatens agricultural productivity, worsens water scarcity, and affects millions, particularly rural communities. Jain emphasizes that sustainable land management, especially led by women, is key to reversing this trend. In Rajasthan, for instance, women have reclaimed 388,000 hectares through practices like agroforestry, crop rotation, and water conservation, showcasing the power of community-driven efforts.
