On 14th August 2024, the Ministry of Mines, Government of India, hosted the Budget Seminar on the National Critical Minerals Mission in New Delhi. This seminar, held in alignment with the Union Budget 2024-25, highlighted the Government's commitment to advancing India's self-reliance in essential raw materials necessary for economic growth and the transition to net-zero emissions.
During the seminar, Davinder Sandhu shared his perspectives on the significance of the Global South in India's strategy to acquire critical mineral assets abroad, emphasizing the need for strategic partnerships in the region. The event also featured a keynote presentation by Dr. Veena Kumari Dermal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Mines, who detailed the initiatives and strategies under the National Critical Minerals Mission. The seminar brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including industry leaders, start-ups, Government officials, scientists, academia, and policy experts, to collaborate on securing India's supply of critical minerals. Key topics discussed included incentivizing domestic exploration, acquiring overseas assets, enhancing recycling processes, and establishing responsible frameworks for industries utilizing these minerals.
