At the 27th National Conference on e-Governance, held on the 3rd and 4th of September, 2024, in Mumbai, Devroop Dhar, Co-Founder and Managing Director of Primus Partners, delivered a thought-provoking presentation during Plenary Session V: Creating Sustainability with e-Governance. The session explored the role of cutting-edge technologies like AI in shaping the future of governance and industry in India.
In his address, Dhar focused on the critical impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on employment and the Indian technology sector's growth. He discussed how AI, when integrated with human skills, enhances productivity and creates long-term value, dispelling the myth that AI simply replaces jobs. Rather, AI serves as a catalyst for a collaborative workforce, where humans and machines work together to drive innovation and efficiency.
He highlighted key insights from Primus Partners’ research, showcasing how AI is poised to transform sectors like banking, telecom, FMCG, infrastructure, and transport. With AI adoption increasing across industries, particularly in non-IT sectors, it is expected to contribute significantly to India’s GDP by 2025. Dhar also discussed AI's ability to localize solutions tailored to India’s unique requirements, such as catering to the country’s diverse linguistic landscape and fostering AI skills development in the workforce.
As India strives to become an AI powerhouse, Dhar emphasized the importance of ensuring that AI adoption is accompanied by skill-building and ethical data practices. By leveraging AI for governance and industry growth, India is set to not only transform its public services but also lead the Global South in technological advancements.
